Biography

Gunasekhar (born June 2, 1964) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer who works predominantly in Telugu cinema. He made his directorial debut with the action drama *Laati* (1992), winning the Nandi Award for Best First Film of a Director. He subsequently directed *Sogasu Chuda Taramaa* (1995), followed by the mythological feature *Ramayanam* (1996), which won the National Film Award for Best Children's Film. His later releases of the decade included *Choodalani Vundi* (1998) and *Manoharam* (2000). In 2003, Gunasekhar wrote and directed the action film *Okkadu*, which won the Filmfare Award for Best Director – Telugu. His subsequent directorial credits during the decade included *Mrugaraju* (2001), *Arjun* (2004), *Sainikudu* (2006), and the romantic action drama *Varudu* (2010), followed by *Nippu* (2012). Gunasekhar later transitioned into film production under his banner, writing, directing, and producing the 3D biographical period film *Rudhramadevi* (2015). He followed this by writing, directing, and producing the historical drama *Shaakuntalam* (2023) and the social drama *Euphoria* (2026).
